Thomas E. Lees holds a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering with option in Computer Science from The Ohio State University (1992) and a J.D. degree from Capital University School of Law (1998) (Order of the Curia, several CALI awards).  Tom has extensive patent prosecution experience in electrical as well as computer and Internet related technologies and has been in private practice since 1998.  Prior to entering private practice, Tom worked as a systems and software engineer designing proprietary precision forecasting software and real-time RF integrated systems.

 

Tom’s practice emphasizes client counseling regarding U.S. and foreign patent matters including portfolio management, prosecution and IP enforcement.  Tom's practice further includes preparation of patentability, infringement, clearance and validity opinions.  Tom's practice also includes the areas of licensing, trademarks, copyrights, branding and intellectual property litigation and support.

 

Tom is an active electronics designer in the areas of analog and digital circuitry, including the use of microcontrollers and wireless (rf) technologies.  Tom enjoys designing, building and restoring preamplifiers, signal processors, vacuum tube amplifiers and recording studio equipment including compressors, equalizers, microphone preamplifiers, etc.  Tom also builds electric guitars, effects and amps.  Tom is a musician, performing as a guitarist in a local country band and in a praise and worship band at his church.

 

Tom also serves as the technical editor for a musical instrument industry magazine, providing detailed, bench tested reviews of amplifiers and related technology using state of the art testing and measurement equipment.  In this regard, Tom has been active in developing and promoting standards for the testing, measurement and reporting of amplifier performance.

Brian P. Sullivan holds a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Dayton (1995), a J.D. degree and an LL.M. degree in Intellectual Property and Technology Law from the University of Dayton School of Law (2010).  Brian was a recipient of the CALI Awards in Patent Practice and Procedure, Intellectual Property, Legislation, and Digital Music Copyright.

Brian's practice emphasizes client counseling regarding U.S. and foreign patent matters including portfolio management, prosecution and IP enforcement.  Brian's practice also includes the areas of trademarks, copyrights, branding and intellectual property litigation and support.

Brian has extensive electrical engineering experience.  In the twelve years between getting his undergraduate degree and entering law school, Brian worked as a field applications engineering specialist.  During this time, he lived in Silicon Valley, Chicago, and Dayton, and supported digital designers across the United States in the design and use of Altera field programmable gate arrays (FPGA).  His experience includes:
